Improving the Health & Safety of all Emergency Responders

Chief Sandy Davis Safety Officer of the Year, awarded to a safety officer who has made a significant contribution to their organization or the fire service as a whole.


During the IAFC FRI Conference, the SHS Section  presented the Chief Sandy Davis Safety Officer of the Year to Captain Dan Dushanko of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue, MD.   Captain Dushanko is a well-respected and multifaceted fire officer, he approaches the improvement of firefighter safety, health and wellness from all angles and represents the true spirit of this award.
